CD Projekt Red gave fans of the open world action role-playing video game “The Witcher 3” an awesome surprise when the studio confirmed a new card battle game based the 2015 release. The studio announced “Gwent: The Witcher Card Game,” which was set for a closed beta last month. However, there was a delay, which led CD Project Red hold closed beta today.
“Gwent: The Witcher Card Game” is set for an Xbox One and Windows PC release, but ahead of the yet undetermined date, CD Project holds a closed beta today. The game can be accessed by players beginning 10 a.m. PT today. According to Gamerant, the card game is a stand alone version of “The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt.”
MSPowerUser reports that “Gwent: The Witcher Card Game” will feature in-game assets such as card art, card voice overs, skills, and competitive PVP mode. It also features “an event-rich world they can roam freely.” The story will be spliced into episodes, in which a campaign will challenge gamers with a choice and consequence mechanic that “The Witcher 3” fans would definitely be familiar with.
“The Witcher 3” was released for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One back in May 2015 and was directed by Konrad Tomaszkiewicz, Mateusz Kanik, and Sebastian Stępień. The open world action role-playing video game received positive reviews from gamers and critics alike and even won multiple Game of the Year awards. It is the third iteration in “The Witcher” series, which first launched in 2007.
